Cleaning Granite

Cleaning granite work surfaces is very easy and has made them one of the most popular types of kitchen materials in high end kitchens.

Granite will withstand extremely high temperatures and therefore have no problems with coping with heat given out by boiling hot kitchenware.

Although polished granite work surfaces are the easiest to maintain a number of procedures and guidelines need to be followed to ensure that it remains this way. First of all it’s imperative – as with all work surfaces – that you don’t directly chop up food on them, but use the traditionally chopping board for this operation. If you fail to use a chopping board on a regular basis you’ll be left with scratches and scuff marks on your precious granite countertop.

When cleaning your granite surfaces use a non-acidic cleaner. Many kitchen cleaners are now non-acidic and these are fine to use. Spray the cleaner onto a soft cloth and rub over the granite to remove any stubborn marks. Next wet the cloth with warm water and rub over the granite to remove the cleaning fluid.

Dry the granite with a tea towel. You can finish off by rubbing with a shammy cloth to get rid of any streaks.
