Homemade Laundry Detergent
Homemade laundry detergent gives you the added bonus f knowing exactly what is in your washing powder. Making Powdered Detergent 2 cups unperfumed Soap (finely grated – you could also try the other bar soaps listed at the top) 1 cup Washing Soda 1 cup Borax
Mix well and store in an airtight plastic container. Use 2 tablespoons per full load.
Liquid Detergent 1 Bar of natural unperfumed soap 1/2 cup Washing Soda - Washing soda is sodium carbonate or soda ash. It is a white powder used to remove dirt and orders. 1/2 cup Borax - Borax is a naturally occurring mineral used as a laundry whitener and deodorizer. 1 Bucket
Grate the soap and put it in a sauce pan. Add 6 cups water and heat it until the soap melts. Add the washing soda and the borax and stir until it is dissolved. Remove from heat. Pour 4 cups hot water into the bucket. Now add your soap mixture and stir. Now add 1 and 1/2 gallons of water and stir. Let the soap sit for about 24 hours and it will gel. You use ½ cup per load. You can add essence to the soap to give it a nice smell. Lavender works well. This soap won't froth like normal washing soap but cleans just as well.
